CGMA Level Design For Games

A showcase of a few of my weekly Assignments from CGMasterAcademy's Level Design For Games Course

Platformer

For this assignment, we were tasked with creating a charming little floating city with platforming elements.

Goals I had for this Assignment:

  • Use 'Cloud' character with flight mechanics

  • Encourage exploration

  • Non-linear level flow

  • Draw the player towards the castle objective using Vistas and Breadcrumbing.

  • Create a nice flow for platforming across floating islands

City Streets

This time we were tasked with blocking out a small Asian-inspired city with interconnected streets.

Goals I had for this Assignment:

  • Utilize ALS Character Mechanics.

  • Use parallaxing to create the illusion of the level extending beyond it's borders.

  • Develop beats and imagine NPC interaction and quests

  • Create interconnected spaces that could be a small part of an open world.

Goals I had for this Assignment:

  • Utilize ALS Character Mechanics.

  • Block out a simple level with interesting spaces and composition.

  • Develop beats and imagine a narrative.

  • Place discoverable items
